The American Baptist Disaster Relief Ministry of NEW YORK.
"Whoever wishes to be great among you must be your servant...For the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life a ransom for many."
Mark 10:43-45 (NRSV)
American Baptist Men Disaster Relief Ministry seeks to serve those affected by federally declared disasters, in cooperation with ABC National Disaster Response, ABC Regions, and the wider disaster response community.
In so doing we further fulfill our Christian mission by demonstrating the compassion of Christ and the ministry of wholeness and renewal.
When disaster strikes, who will help?
Your community has just been devastated by a disaster such as a flood or hurricane. Your home has sustained major damage. You and your family are living in a temporary shelter. City services are taxed beyond their limits. Where do you turn for help?
American Baptist Men Disaster Relief has emergency response teams across the United States poised and ready to respond to such a situation. Upon the declaration of a federal disaster, the closest team is dispatched, as well as the ABM Disaster Relief Trailer. Together they can be on the scene within 48 hours.
Working in cooperation with the American Red Cross, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), and Church World Service, these volunteers trained in disaster relief assist with such things as clean up, minor repairs, and rebuilding. This is an immediate short-term response, up to eight weeks.
ABMen Disaster Relief is Mission In Action! Christ by His example set the pattern for us to follow. He instructed us in our mission to share His love through the role of the servant.
ABMen Disaster Relief is a ministry for all American Baptists. You can be a part of this ministry and join the work of dedicated Christians who have expanded their circle of concern. You can become involved in meeting the crucial needs of disaster victims in the name of Jesus Christ.
The servant role takes on a whole new meaning when you respond to the needs of disaster victims. You become personally involved in helping hurting people. We become not just a people who talk of missions but a people who put our words into action.
Faith Works The mission of the Disaster Relief trailer is being expanded. Not only is the trailer to be used for natural disasters, we are looking to offer the trailer for large church or mission projects in New York through a program called Faith Works. If your men's group, church or association has a need for the trailer or the equipment for a long-term project, send us an email so the ABMEN board can evaluate the project.
If you would like to assist our efforts in New York State by making a financial contribution to our Disaster Relief Ministry please send your check made out to "ABMen NYS" to:

Faith and Deeds 14 What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save them? 15 Suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes and daily food. 16 If one of you says to them, “Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,” but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it? 17 In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.
